About Me

Photographer with gear on a hike at Bosque Unchog in Peru.

What has always been there for me is an interest in the outside. I have always wanted to know what is happening in our yards, parks, wild spaces, and landscapes. And while interested in the individual, I also wanted to understand how the individual exists in the context of its ecosystem. I wanted to know how each plant, animal, and nutrient are interconnected, where they come and go and why.

And the questions, always the questions forming in my mind. What is this insect eating? Why is this plant on this ridge but not on the next? They pop into my head constantly and cover from large to small, from the macro planet level to the microscopic.

To answer more of the questions, I needed tools. The binoculars were the first, handy at bringing better into view what was hidden due to distance. And while I honed my identifying skills, I found that unless I studied at home for hours, I still could not identify some species without knowing what to be paying attention to. And so, the camera came with the binoculars and me more often as a way of capturing what I didn't know yet to be important.

Thank you for taking the time to view the other beings from our planet. They have always been special to me. I hope, for yourself, that you are able to connect and appreciate them. Please enjoy.

Recommended Tour Companies

I have used all of the tour companies listed below and are all top tier. They are in no particular order.

  1. Cua Birding - I had an amazing time exploring the Dominican Republic with Cua Birding and can vouch for their professionalism and local knowledge of the not always apparent spots to stop to get great looks at their beautiful habitats and wildlife.

  2. Alvaro’s Adventures - I ventured out on a day long Pelagic tour from Half Moon Bay out to the Farallon Islands with Alvaro and had an excellent time. I was able to see 3 new bird lifers, and 9 new species that I had never photographed before. We also saw numerous whales, sea lions and seals.
